Protection Tips


1. Avoid Mosquito Bites

  • Use insect repellent with DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.

  • Wear long sleeves, pants, and socks when outdoors, especially from dusk to dawn (mosquitoes are most active at night).

  • Stay indoors during peak mosquito hours if possible.


2. Mosquito-Proof Your Home

  • Install or repair screens on windows and doors.

  • Use air conditioning instead of open windows.

  • Use mosquito nets if sleeping outdoors or in unscreened rooms.


3. Eliminate Standing Water

Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Empty or clean:

  • Birdbaths

  • Buckets

  • Pet water bowls

  • Plant saucers

  • Old tires

  • Clogged gutters


4. Be Extra Cautious If at Higher Risk

People over 60 years or those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness.
