Recognizing Lyme Disease: What to Know After a Tick Bite
A tick bite may seem minor, but certain ticks can transmit Lyme disease, a bacterial infection that can affect the skin, joints, nervous system, and other parts of the body. Early symptoms may include fever, fatigue, headache, muscle or joint aches, and a characteristic expanding skin rash known as erythema migrans. However, not everyone develops the classic rash, making it important to recognize other potential warning signs.
If you find a tick attached to your skin, remove it promptly using fine-tipped tweezers and clean the bite area thoroughly. If symptoms develop following a tick bite—or if you are concerned about possible exposure—medical evaluation can help determine whether testing or treatment is appropriate.
